Environmental sustainability is integral to improving Gates operations and processes.
Our sustainability strategy goes beyond measuring impacts. We proactively manage risks and drive efficiencies by understanding how our decisions create both direct and indirect effects, enabling us to deliver cascading benefits across our business and to our customers.
GOVERNANCE | TECHNOLOGY | ENVIRONMENT | STEWARDSHIP
Gates sustainability strategy is organized in four pillars G - T - E - S. As a materials science and innovation company, technology is central to our success. The GTES framework adds Technology to ESG, and demonstrates how integral ESG is to our identity by fusing our ticker symbol with our commitment to sustainability throughout our operations and governance.
GOVERNANCE
DOING BUSINESS THE RIGHT WAY
Our integrity-first approach guides every level of decision-making at Gates. The Gates Board oversees and has responsibility for environmental, social and governance issues, and our ESG Steering Committee ensures that our sustainability goals are aligned throughout the organization. All our co-manufacturers and independent suppliers sign up to the Gates Supplier Code of Conduct, committing them to comply with environmental, labor, and human rights practices.
With full and accurate reporting, our Climate-related Financial Disclosure (CFD) is aligned with the UK Government’s Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework and is published in our UK Annual Report.
Gates Sustainability Report is aligned with the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

TECHNOLOGY
SUSTAINABLE VISION, INNOVATIVE RESULTS
Gates Eco-Innovation™ model articulates our goal of delivering enhanced value to customers across the globe. Each stage from sourcing, manufacturing, transportation, customer use, and end-of-life disposition, offers opportunities to create value upstream and downstream. This unique framework focuses Gates on delivering premium quality products that meet and exceed customer expectations in a wide range of critical applications and demanding operating environments.
This means we are now using less resources to create products that are more energy-efficient, and last longer. For example, we use recycled materials and remanufacture products to reduce our use of virgin materials. We are reducing our scrap rates and making things smaller. And our next-generation products and technologies are enabling us to scale up solutions with positive social and environmental impacts, especially in applications where reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing durability are critical priorities.
ENVIRONMENT
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
FOR REDUCED ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
At Gates, we work together to reduce our global environmental footprint by improving energy efficiency, conserving water, eliminating waste and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Our public goals are to reduce energy by 20% compared to a 2019 baseline, and emissions by 15% compared to a 2019 baseline, by the end of 2025. We have Reasonable Assurance on our annual progress toward these goals which you can read more about in the most recent version of our annual Sustainability Report.
STEWARDSHIP
GLOBAL FOCUSED, LOCALLY IMPLEMENTED
At Gates, we believe that an engaged and connected workforce is directly linked to the value we provide to customers and to the communities in which we live and operate. Our team members make Gates extraordinary. Our goal is to create a positive, healthy work environment in which our people come first, and everyone thrives.
Gates recognizes the importance of helping to build, serve, empower and better the communities in which we live and work around the world.
