Gates builds your prototype belt drive system based on findings in the analysis stage. Performance, packaging and cost criteria dictate the selection of drive components and sub-assemblies. First consideration is given to existing technology. If that won’t do, we’ll engineer custom components. Customization may involve any or all of the following elements:
- Belt construction
- Pulleys and idlers
- Brackets
- Belt tensioners
- Couplers and dampers
Because Gates makes more belt types than any other manufacturer, we have the ability to retool quickly and produce short runs of your new design for sampling. A new belt construction could involve changes in material, tensile member, backing or belt length.
We can also produce custom metal prototypes or production runs of pulleys, sheaves or sprockets for your drive design. Our Made-to-Order (MTO) Metals group works with select metal fabricators on orders both large and small.
MTO Metal Services include:- Pulleys, Sheaves and Sprockets – All Gates Synchronous Profiles and Pitches, Micro-V® and V-belt, Plain or Profiled Idlers
- Bores – Plain, Straight, Tapered, Splined or any special bore. Manufactured to accept Taper-Lock®, Ringfeder®, QD®, Torque-Tamer, Trantorque® or other special bushings
- Styles – Bar Stock, Idlers, Ringfeder Connections, Torque-Tamers, Custom Configurations, Special Hubs and more
- Material – Aluminum, Steel, Ductile, Cast iron, Phenolic, Stainless Steel or Plastics
- Finishes – Hard Coat, Food Grade, Zinc, Black Anodize, Nickel Plating, Painted, Custom Plating or any Special Coatings
- Processes – Hob Cutting, Shaper Cutting, Die Casting and Molding
- Other Services – Sub-Assemblies, Press Bearings, Sprocket/Bushing Balance and Index Marking
