Beginning August 1, 2014, the Gates Corporation will be recognized as an official partner of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The partnership will be in effect for three years, during which time both parties are confident that many individuals and families will benefit greatly.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities began in Philadelphia in 1974. The goal of the organization was to provide a place for families with sick children to stay that maintained a “home-away-from-home” environment, offering comfortable lodging, food, and entertainment. The idea was that being comfortably surrounded by family would ease a child’s long and arduous journey toward recovery. Since that early beginning, Ronald McDonald House Charities has grown to include more than 200 chapters in over 58 countries around the world, housing and helping over 9 million families every year. The Gates Corporation is honored to be a part of this kindhearted organization.
When Gates was founded in 1911, Mr. Charles C. Gates made it clear that he wanted his company to be involved in the community. He wanted to be recognized as a hometown company that didn’t just care about its employees, but cared about people at a more basic, human level. Mr. Gates’ goal led to the company participating in many community outreach programs over the years. This partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities holds consistent with the Gates Corporation’s dedication to serving in the community.
In light of the new partnership, Gates is kicking things off with a three-month fundraising effort. In order to reach the goal of $150,000 to donate to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, the company has thought up various ways to raise money. The primary effort will be through the sales of the new Building Blocks Business Kits. $20 from each kit sold will be donated directly to the charity. But sales are not the only way. Gates is relying on its employees and friends to assist in this community outreach. Employees and customers can donate directly to the charity through this link.
Together, RMHC and Gates hope to change the lives and ease the burdens of many more sick children and their families. Because at Gates, community has been at the heart of the company… for over 100 years.
