Racing |
Tony Schumacher, driver of the U.S. Army dragster, captured his sixth Top Fuel championship in the season-ending race in Pomona, Calif. It was Schumacher’s sixth straight Top Fuel title and his seventh overall.
Schumacher’s march to the 2009 title came unexpectedly to many who doubted that he could repeat the championship after the end-of-the-season departure of the crew chief and crew who left to start another team.
During the course of the 2009 season, Schumacher recorded five event wins in seven final round appearances. He now has 61 career victories to his credit.
