New BMW F 650 CS motorcycle equipped with Gates Poly Chain® GT2 synchronous belt

Last summer BMW Motorcycles released the new sporty F 650 CS motorcycle introducing a model that boasts a completely new technical concept. The biggest surprise from BMW was the adoption of a synchronous belt drive on the F 650 CS, replacing the chain drive used on the former models. To equip the synchronous drive of the motorcycle, BMW opted for Gates’ high-performance Poly Chain® GT2 11 mm pitch belt. The result is a F 650 CS synchronous drive running very smoothly at low noise, requiring no lubrication or retensioning and offering twice the service life of a chain drive.
Gates’ Poly Chain® GT2 polyurethane synchronous belt ensures optimum performance on high torque, low speed drives. The body and teeth of the belt are made of a unique polyurethane compound, making the belt tough and highly resistant to abrasion and chemical attack. Aramid tensile cords are the belt’s muscles and provide it with unparalleled power-carrying capacity. The aramid fibre exhibits exceptional flex fatigue life and absorbs shocks and surge loading.
It’s no coincidence that BMW decided to equip their brand-new F 650 CS motorcycle with Gates’ Poly Chain® GT2 belt. It offers numerous advantages compared to chain: the engine efficiency is enhanced, the drive hardly requires any maintenance as no cleaning or greasing is required; it runs at lower noise level and the total weight of the drive is lower. In addition, a Gates Poly Chain® GT2 drive ensures long and reliable service.
