Gates has designed its MegaCrimp™ coupling with a patented "C" insert, attached to the ferrule, that freely encases hoses of different constructions and wall thicknesses. This simplifies inventory requirements since one size of MegaCrimp™ can accommodate many different hose OD's, on both one- and two-wire hydraulic hoses. 

In addition, during crimping only the ferrule takes on the traditional octagonal shape formed by the die fingers. The "C" insert remains round and evenly distributes crimp forces, thereby assuring a tight concentric seal. This feature protects hose tube integrity and thus eliminates potential leak paths. 

Another user feature is the stem design that allows the coupling to be smoothly inserted into the hose without the need for lubricants or tools. When the hose is fully inserted into the stem, it will noticeably bottom out and won't fall off because of the snug fit.
