Through analysis of belts returned from the field, Gates Engineers have found that the majority of belt failures are caused by related components such as idlers and tensioners. Gates Timing Belt Kit is the most convenient solution, in one economical and complete package.

For this reason we offer the option of a timing tensioner kit. The kit includes belt and related idlers, tensioner and seals for most popular vehicle applications.

With timing belt replacement on modern vehicle applications normally having a high labour component, it makes economic sense to replace all components at the recommended belt change interval.

 

Gates offers Timing Components Kits complete with Hydraulic Tensioners.

Gates Hydraulic Tensioners are filled with liquid and have internal components including a steel valve sleeve, plunger rod and seals. This type of tensioner has a hydraulic function different to a mechanical tensioner that operates with an internal spring loaded mechanism.

Gates Seals ensure maximum timing belt life. To help installers do a complete job of replacing the timing belt drive system, Gates has a line of cam and crankshaft oil seals.

The seals will prevent oil contamination to a newly installed timing belt assembly, ensure maximum belt life and reduce costly "comebacks" that may result from future leaks at the cam and crankshaft.

Timing Components Kits with Water Pumps

 

Many water pumps are driven by the timing belt. If the water pump fails, coolant will leak and contaminate the belt. Long-term coolant contamination will eventually lead to premature timing belt failure. Gates recommends checking the timing belt driven water pump while servicing the timing belt and other drive system components.

Why you should choose Gates Timing Components Kits

A variety of factors can cause timing belt tensioner or idler failure. Bearing life is limited by wear, misalignment, loss of lubricant and ingress of wear particles. Most of these problems cannot be readily identified by an inspection, so it is always best to replace the tensioner and/or idlers as part of the timing belt replacement.
